Kefalonia

Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian Islands. Located between Lefkada and Zakynthos (also known as Zante), Kefalonia covers an area of 781 km2 and has a population of about 35,000.

Capital of Kefalonia is Argostoli with around 9,000 inhabitants. Other major towns of Kefalonia are Lixouri, Poros, Sami and Skala.

The Ionian Sea is known for its beautiful beaches and Kefalonia is no exception. Its beaches are famous for their clear waters and sandy beaches. Most famous of all is Myrtos, which is declared without doubt as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. In accordance with an annual vote of the Greek Ministry of Environment, Myrtos has been elected as “The Best Greek Sea” eleven times.

Particularly interesting are the caves of the island like the lake cave of Melissani, the Drogarati cave and many more which are worth visiting.

Any means of transport is necessary in order to explore all the beauties of the island, like countless small bays with turquoise waters, beautiful mountain and seaside villages and picturesque coves in which one also has access via boats.
